[Dec 2nd] Insurance policies, to
be enforced for Romanian Gym Clubs

have confirmed to us that effective January 1st, 2005 , no
single gymnast from clubs around the country will be allowed
to compete in any national event, if the copy of the full
insurance policy will not be on file, at the RGF headquarters
in Bucharest. Past years, RGF have asked, many times, local
gymnastics clubs to provide some kind of insurance to all
gymnasts.
First obstacle was there was no single local
insurance company to accept such a deal, but past few years
some new foreign based companies or new national ones, could
provide this service. "Our mistake was that we allowed
local clubs to decide for themselves and we didn't enforced
this"- said an RGF official for romanian-gymnastics.com.
"When problems occur, like Andreea
Chelaru case, we have to provide not only the basic
assistance, but is hard for us to find the financial resources,
our budget is thight. If local clubs have had signed those
insurance policies as requested, at least we could provide
a better financial asisstance-offficial said. Local clubs
didn't pay attention in the past to our advice's and requests,
but when something goes wrong, the blame come on us. We shall
not tolerate any more the lack of rules and insurance at any
gymnastics club affiliated to us. If they didn't do it in
the past to protect the athletes, now they have to do it"-said
the RGF official.
