Romanian
President Iliescu about difference between soccer and gymnastics
During a late night TV show (Letterman-type), on Antena1 TV
station, Romanian President Iliescu was asked about his opinion
on media coverage on soccer (high interest from media) and
gymnastics (lower or no coverage of media, between Olympics).
Iliescu is a well known gymnastics fan, he was on stage at
Athens during qualifications and even walked into backstages
(having big troubles to get there...) to wish romanian gymnasts
Good Luck!
Despite having such great results for so many years, gymnastics
is still almost un-seen between major competition (not only
in Romania, but gym fans have same feeling around the world-our
note).

President Iliescu, being himself a former athlete and former
leader of Romanian kayak Federation during 70's, said that
soccer is mostly a social phenomenon, which draw large mass
of people and this is why media give such a large coverage
on anything related to it."Without hard, persistent work and
discipline- great results can't be achieved"-said President
Iliescu.
Iliescu is also known as a suporter of Romanian
Gymnastics Team, he decorated coach Belu, Federation former
President Vieru and Mr.Bruno Gandi, President of European
Gymnastics Federation.
