[24.09] Oana Ban says Good Bye! to gymnastics
Oana Ban, former member of Athens 2004 Romanian Gymnastics Olympics Team, has retired from gymnastics.
At the end of her floor exercise during team competition in Athens , she has accused strong pains from an older problem at her right leg. She didn't compete any more in all around and apparatus final contest at Olympics. Back in Deva for training, Oana have decided, after few days of training, that she can no longer continue with gymnastics. (Report...)

The official reception of welcoming The Gold Team ended last evening into a general whipped cream fight, with Belu's face generously covered by a deep layer of whipped cream. A nice, warming welcome, from a 2000 people crowd which have mostly filled the Deva central square. This was the way people of Deva have showed their enthusiasm for the Gold Team coming back "home"-at Deva.

[15.09] The Gold Team, Back to Deva
The Gold Team has left Bucharest early this morning, destination Deva. They will attend the official opening of the new school year and "welcome back!" ceremonies are expected. Few months ago, when they left for train in Bucharest, not many people would bet on their success at Athens (due to short time, only two years, since the team was born). Now the girls (and coaches) return with bags loaded with Olympics and Presidential Medals, like never before. Each time the team return from Olympic Games (always with medals, of course), the people from Deva and local officials welcome them, as they are considered to be like being almost "their children".

[14.09] Highest awards and Honors for Gymnasts and their coaches
Romanian president Ion Iliescu awarded to the men's and women's gymnastics team with the highest Romanian medals and honors.

All Romanian medallists from Athens were given different types of Presidential Medals, depending of their achievement. Also some coaches, including (a first in Romania) those who have first discovered and trained the athletes, and some officials were given Presidential Medals.(click for Report)

[12.09] Gold Team at Dan Grecu's daughter marriage
Octavian Belu and all the girls from Olympic Team have attended a wedding reception this weekend. Dan Grecu, former gymnasts (Nadia's generation gymnast), and the coach of the National Men's team has become father-in-law. His daughter, Simona-Elena, get married with Bogdan ( a computer specialist, no direct connection with sport). Both Women's and Men's Olympic teams have attended...(clik for Report)

[11.09/GMT 19,00] Gold Team is Back!
The girls (Olympic Team) just made their first public appearance in Bucharest after holyday, this evening, during the most popular Romanian TV show.During a live broadcast from Constitution Square, (in front of Parliament House, the second largest building in the World), the girls and men's team have both danced together on a stage, in few minutes public aerobics-alike program. It was a fund raising show for leukemia and all girls and men's team were wearing at their hand nickels special white scarf's -like those received by all few thousands spectators which have made donations
on-site, for a leukemia help program.

During a late night TV show (Letterman-type), on Antena1 TV station, Romanian President Iliescu (a well known gymnastics fan, he was on stage at Athens during qualifications and even walked into backstages to wish romanian gymnasts Good Luck!), was asked about his opinion on media coverage on soccer (high interest from media) and gymnastics -with lower or no coverage of media... [05/09] Iraqis gymnasts, training in Romania
61 Iraqis athletes (gymnasts, boxing and other) are in Romania for a 10 days training session. The women gymnastic team is in Onesti city, at the Romanian National Junior team training facility; the men went to Toplita city for training.

[03.09] Marius Urzica, back to fishing camp
After the last evening Olympic Delegation Reception at Government, Marius Urzica went back to Danube Delta, where he went for fishing trip after Olympics.He already have caught five catfish (between 2,5 to 14 kilos) and two big carps (12 and 17 kilos) before leaving the camp to attend the reception. Marius will go this weekend to the Black Sea resorts, and will return to training in Bucharest on September 8.

[01.09] Olympics will get their cash tomorrow
The cash prizes from the whole Romanian Olympic delegation will be handled tomorrow at Government headquarter in Bucharest. For the first time, the coach which have discovered athletes will receive cash prizes, too (15% from what their athletes have won, but paid separately). Belu and Bitang will get, first time in Romania, a huge jackpot: almost half a million euros for both.

Urzica to receive a real, pure-Gold medal
During a Romanian national television program aired last evening, Ion Tiriac, the President of Romanian Olympic Committee, have revealed that a pure-Gold medal (Olympics-2004 alike, but Gold made), was ordered by him and will be ready next 10 days. At a last week reception at the Olympic "Romanian House" in Athens, Tiriac said to Marius Urzica that he deserve such a medal (for his pommel horse evolution) and their (Romanian) feeling are that Urzica was deprived by judges of winning one. [01.09]"Oskar Capital" prize for Catalina Ponor
The Romanian weekly "Capital" , to appear tomorrow on local press shops, have awarded their 5-stars Trophy (the most important) "Oskar Capital" for this week to Catalina. She is considered by the magazine "the new Star of world gymnastics".The magazine is the local edition of Swiss "Cash" business magazine, one of the European most respected magazines (similar with U.S. "Fortune" magazine). Each week, five trophies are awarded, ranking down from top-five star to one-star Oskar.
