[April 14] Ploiesti
Int. Champ.: Rosu and Eremia may not compete
Monica Rosu and Alexandra Eremia may not compete at all at
Ploiesti International Championships, starting Friday at Ploiesti
(40 miles North Bucharest).
Only few weeks ago, the doctors from Bucharest
National sport Medical Center have advised Eremia and Rosu
to have a two months time off from gymnastics training. With
B&B back as a couple (of coaches...too) inside the gym
hall, these previous announced medical advice's seems to be,
one more time, ignored.
Depending of the two girls evolution's on
Friday morning training, they will decide if Alexandra Eremia
and Monica Rosu will take part at the International Championships.
It is said that Ploiesti contest is the test
one for the girls to be chosen for the Euros. Since February,
most girls from the team have expressed their unwilling to
compete at Euros. This has been confirmed by the RGF WAG Director
Anca Grigoras in the live phone interview with two Romanians
channels, during the "Girls being send home" recent
scandal.
Some may wonder why (the Hell) a girl would
not bother to go to a major competition. The main reason is
the bad system used by Romanian Olympic Committee (ROC) to
calculate the amount to be paid as "renta viagera"
- the monthly income to be paid to former champions. They take
into account only Olympic medals (any type, decreasing
points from Gold to Bronze) and World Championships. Here's
is the trick: for World, only Gold medals are taken into account.
The Euros doesn't count at all, get the picture? They may
think that better save their energy and efforts, to compete
at Worlds, rather than working hard to be in shape at a contest
which doesn't bring them much more ( medals and glory...but
after you have the Olympic Gold, an Euro medal is not so impressive).
The difference may be so important that a
former gymnast who won Gold at Athens, but nothing more, have
a monthly income almost half as a girls who won Gold at Worlds.
This is big, guys, from $600 to $1000 (cash in hand),
every month, for the rest of their lifes...in
Romania, you can live as a Queen...
Solution? To wake up the guys from ROC and
make a new, fair point system, where any medal from competitions
to be taken into account. Otherwise...dond't expect much from
girls who knows they risk a lot competing at Euros (at least
two of them being close to a Petrovschi back problems case).
It seems pretty understanding their lack of motivation to
risk their health at coming Euros for almost nothing. Maybe
they think is better to save their forces for Worlds. I don't
say is good or bad, but this is the real $ituation. If ROC
would not reversed the RGF decision few weeks ago, maybe we
could see a new team being born right now, which is good for
long term (2008 Olympics).
Now we have as "coaches"B&B with salaries of
$5000 for each one, with a contract "with no competitions
objectives" (really? why not name them the King and the
Queen of Rom Gym, for life...because this is what they are
in such a case, having their salaries with no clear objectives
stated). We have a ready-to-be dissolved "team",
with no motivation and desire (and practical chance's) to
come back in shape. This year is almost lost for Romanian
gymnastics.
Fortunately, after the incoming advanced elections, theese
new last-minutes found B&B's new "protectors"
(close to the new Government but with roots in former neo
communist one, and ones which are expected to be finally dumped
at next elections) will not be able to help anybody and the
new start for the Romanian gymnastics will come. Until then...
they have started to broadcast some of NBA games in Romania,
too...enjoy, because there isn't much hope of (quality) gymnastics
on TVR. Only on some tabloids, closed to B&B (what a coincidence,
huh?), which run now all the previous stories with the girls
previous boyfriends. Not so nice from those who get villas,
cars and prestige on girls back pains, hard work and even
ruined lifes-sometimes.
At least, the (old) President of RGF, despite heavy attacks
from ROC and everybody else (all of you have read the partial
transcript of Telesport program when he was made pieces),
didn't reveal back then anything bad for girls, even this
let him with no defense on critics. This is a real (old and
so rare these days) Gentleman. The contrary? ...Look for the
"mustache guy": Belu.
