[Dec 14] Ephedrine,
the Sydney (in) famous drug, still being used
by
athletes
Marius
Urzica is among the members of the new Romanian Anti Doping
Agency which just released the 2005 Report; no gymnasts on
the "black list" of the athletes being caught on
drugs.
In the previous 2004 Report (released earlier this year, see
Ephedrine
list usage), the ephedrine was still among drugs being
used by some Romanian athletes (not from gymnastics, but from
other sports). The ephedrine detection was the reason why
former gymnast Andreea
Raducan was asked to return one of her Sydney medal back.
Thanks to a US gymnastics fan, "allyvise"
, here are some infos about ephedrine and its stimulant properties.
"There have also been reports of off-label uses of pseudoephedrine
for its stimulant properties. Some patients, long-distance
truck drivers for example, have reportedly used pseudoephedrine
as a stimulant to increase their state of alertness/awakedness.
It is doubtful that pseudoephedrine would be of significant
benefit, except in sensitive-individuals, due to its minimal
effect in the central nervous system (see Mode of Action above).
Nevertheless, such misuse of pseudoephedrine has been associated
with stimulant dependence." References:
