[March 17] Cottbus
participation, girls overweight and...Octavian Belu
The only Romanian gymnasts going to Cottbus competition will
be
male gymnasts Marius Urzica, Ioan Suciu and Razvan Selariu.
Even Marian Dragulescu (after having the last weeks open conflict
with coach Dan Grecu) will not attend and this is supposed
to be -according to the press statements "a common decision
of coach Grecu and Dragulescu. We rather think that coach
have used the (old communist) *rule* : "if you talk,
you don't walk."
Girls team is supposed to have weight problems and lack of
good form. According to Belu's statements for "Cotidianul",
the "official overweight" table for this week is
: Monica Rosu + 8 kilos (as in Athens) ; Catalina Ponor: +7
kilos. Far from those +15 kilos (?!) rumors among fans in
Internet, rumors spread by some illiterates *fans* (probably
wrong conversion to other measures or some of their friends
making propaganda).
These figures are almost the same as those from last November,
when Belu have considered both Rosu and Ponor good enough
to participate in those paid competitions or shows, from which
Belu could get the 30% tax on girls revenues.
But now, keeping girls not participating at some contests
(including US Cup and the Cottbus) will make the picture looking
disastrous to those who may decide about Belu's (permanent)
return at team. Their main interest was to show people how
much
weight girls get (nobody dare to ask them about the medical
records with the kilos table from last year, too see when
girls get this weight) and their supposed "low level"
of training for the moment. Of course, the places, all of
them, should remain free for them, so no competitor was send
even to US Cup (at least some juniors could attend, but a
good evolution there could give back home a real image about
the positive future of Romanian gymnastics- with or, better
without B&B- and this "they" couldn't allow
happening.
"I don't think that girls will stay until
this autumn"- Belu said for same "Cotidianul".
"When you get a monthly allowance of 15 millions (like
$550) and the interest from the money (previous prizes) in
the bank account, why should you go back to the training?
"- is asking Belu. We have an answer for this (he knows,
too-but is playing his games): because if the girls win a
World medal, too, they will have their future ROC monthly
"renta viagera"-rent, growing up with 20...40% !
This means a lot, because it will be for their life time!
(Not to speak about the honors and moral satisfactions- which
count less these days).
