Golden Team was sent home...
The present members of the Olympic Team have been send home,
for training at their home clubs (Monica Rosu, Catalina Ponor,
Alexandra Eremia, Florea Leonida) or at Deva ( Sofronie and
Munteanu, which were kept in the National Team).
Sofronie has refused to go to Deva, she said she want to have
Bitang and Belu as coach, only.
During a live TVR1
News right from the National Training Center, Monica Rosu
have denied that she have got +7 kilos. "I have got only
four kilos" . (1kg=2.205 lbs)
"They-B&B- use to exaggerate about girls weight"-said
for romanian-gymnastics.com a specialist who knows how things
went in the past."But now, this seems to be turned on
them (B&B), too because without these girls...no 30% "gift
tax" ca$h for this year...
"We have concluded that we can't go anymore
further with present team, there is no practical way to bring
them back to shape"-said for TVR1 the RGF President Adrian
Stoica. "We are grateful to them for Athens results,
this was probably the best team ever Romania have had, but
we have to think about future. The girls will keep training
at their former clubs and will see later. We have other two
groups of gymnasts in training for selection in the Senior
team, so this is not the end of Romanian gymnastics.'(as the
TVR1 reporter Alina Alexoi have suggested).
"It was very unpleasant to get this 'fired"decision
over the phone, nobody came to speak with us" said Catalina
Ponor which looks very disappointed.
As we said back in December, the main target
for RGF and ROC will be this year to set up the new team for
2008 Olympics. Thinking deeper, they took a hard but somehow
necessary decision. "They did the same back in 2002,
when they have send all the girls home, to avoid discussions
about not participating at Euros (due to lack of proper training
girls). They now have the best excuse for this year Euro Championships-no
participation due to the forming of the new team."-said
another Romanian specialist interviewed by romanian-gymnastics.com
minutes later after the decision of "getting fired"
was made.
This may looks bad now, but can be a positive
news for future. Just thinking if the RGF have had the "cojones"
to do this, (but including the B&B, also), past October.
WE could have by now a team in progress and participating
at US Cup and Cotbuss, too.
[Update] Believe it or not, we were trying
to upload the page when we have got this confirmation of the
previous sentence about Euros, when following news came.
"The girls have had a clause in their
January signed contracts; if they don't get the proper weight,
they are out of the team"said RGF President Vieru for
Antena 1 Television. "In these conditions, we have end
our dreams about participating at this year Euros."
[Update2] Time passing, seems more and more
that these events looks more like a "lovitura de Palat"
(coup d'Etat) , made by the RGF officials team. They have
used the absence of Belu (which is no longer an RGF official-so
they don't have to ask him come to their meeting) and Bitang,
which let them-RGF- decide the dissolution of the Team.
This last event can bring girls mind back (and maybe loose
the extra weight next weeks, like girls from 2002 did) and
also prevent Belu from a permanent return, at least for the
moment (he came back for a day only last week, but was ready
to return in full next week). And, best of all, ( "Dreams
do come True, you have to Believe!...Any pry) Bitang is now
out of picture-since there is no team any more to train. Evolution
need sacrifices; if we have to loose a (few months more to
be, anyway) team to get rid of B&B, especially Bi... then...some
may consider the price to be deserved.
I feel sorry for Catalina & comp, but girls, take it like
you are the innocent lambs sacrificed for the benefit of the
future of Romanian Gymnastics.
