Romanian
gymnastics fans opinions
Hi,
Underneath all the so-called scandals, isn't the main
underlying issue rocking the Romanian gymnastics world right
now a power struggle between Romanian gymnastics coaches?
B&B have dictated elite gymnastics policy in Romania for decades,
and I suspect other coaches realize that this is not exactly
how a democracy is supposed to work. And from the athletes'
perspective, there is obviously a growing awareness of the
Draconian qualities of B&B's boot camps (evidenced by Catalina
Ponor's comment, "I hope I will prove that it's possible
to perform well even without the tough restrictions at the
training camp," -from http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/news/story?id=2146916).
Of course, girls have been complaining for years about the
strictness of the training, but I suspect they are more aware
than ever of how that training compares to that in other countries.
Both of these issues--coaches and athletes--reflect a self-awareness
of a rapidly changing Romania and a realization that there
is something increasingly anachronistic about the dictatorial
(some might say tyrannical) Romanian gymnastics program in
this supposed fledgling democracy.
Thanks for your excellent coverage. :-)

Hello,
I just want to say that I really hope that Rosu and Eremia
are OK and healthy enough for competition.
I cannot believe that Mrs. Bitang is so...... I wish them
all well in their future events. Go and win gold like you
always do.
I'm the team's biggest fan from Guyana.
Thank you
