Comission for supporting the Romanian sport
Bucharest, Feb 24 /Rompres/
- The first meeting of the Presidential Commission for discussing
the support given to the Romanian sports took place on Thursday
at the Cotroceni presidential Palace, in the presence of President
Traian Basescu. The head of state considers this decision
as necessary as there hasn't been any serious policy with
regard to sports in the last 15 years. Traian Basescu voiced
hope that this Commission will contribute to the introduction
of sports in the schools program, as a selective basis for
the future.
"From this point of view, I must assure you that if we
have a clear strategy, able to be adopted by the government,
we will also have the financial resources to support this
plan. In the last 15 years, sport hasn't been provided any
serious policy," the head of state said.
The Protocol for the creation and organization of the Presidential
Commission in charge of the Romanian sports development was
signed on the occasion. The Commission is a honorifically-based
structure, answerable to the department responsible for the
promotion of sports within the Presidential Administration;
the institutions which can have a role in promoting Romanian
sports may join this Commission.
The members of the Commission are the state advisers on sports
issues, former gym coaches Mariana
Bitang and Octavian
Belu, the Olympic champion, police officer Elisabeta Lipa
from the Ministry of Administration and the Interior, Adela
Neagoe (Ministry of Health), Paloma Petrescu (Ministry of
Education and Research), brigadier general Catalin Zisu (Ministry
of Defense), the president of the Romanian Olympic Committee
Octavian Morariu, the director of the National Agency for
Sports Mihai Capatana, deputy Ovidiu Buhaianu, the rector
of the National Academy of Physical Education and Sports in
Bucharest Gheorghe Cismas, Bogdan Iliescu (Ministry of Labour,
Social Solidarity and the Family), the president of the National
Anti-doping Agency Elena Vajiala.
The Commission intends to initiate projects and programs for
the promotion and development of the Romanian sports, to supervise
the application of these projects and also of the programs
promoted by different institutions, to give an unitary image
of the solutions that must be taken in order to promote the
Romanian sports, to improve the manner in which the problems
in sports are identified and also to establish a permanent
communication between institutions.
The state consultants Mariana
Bitang and Octavian
Belu will coordinate the activity of this Commission.
The Commission will have periodical meetings. During the first
meeting of the Commission there were debated issues regarding
the development of the infrastructure, the promotion of sports
in schools and at the level of the entire population, in general,
the identification of the solutions that must be taken for
the improvement of the legal system with regard to sports,
the situation of the doctors in this field, the necessity
of improvements in mass sports and Olympic training. [Rompres]
