[Jan 29] Nadia
Comaneci offered 10 scholarships for CSS 2 gymnasts
Bucharest
– Nadia
Comaneci and
Niro Group on Monday offered 10 scholarships to gymnasts from
School Sport Club 2 from Bucharest, Rompres reports.
Nadia
Comaneci became
for three years the image of the group, within the partnership
“We invest in people, we invest in the future,” which consists
of social programmes destined to sportsmen and women, underprivileged,
old people, poor and orphan children.
The EUR 1,200 scholarships (EUR 100/month,
for one year) were received by gymnasts Cristina Petcu,
Raluca Nistor, Andreea Gheorghe, Cristina
Tudose, Cristina Stefan, Mihaela Tone, Roberta
Butuc, Andreea Codrat, Florina Dan and Georgiana
Sulugiuc.
Nadia
Comaneci said
she came with excitement at the club that she knows very well.
She also talked about her partnership with Niro. “The
gymnastics team from CSS 2 proved good results through seriousness
and perseverance. I am glad companies from Romania think at
sport in general, and at gymnastics particularly,”
Nadia
Comaneci asserted.
Also, it was celebrated Nadia’s appointment as
the best sportswoman of the century by the readers of “El
Mundo Deportivo” paper. Nadia
Comaneci gained
29 per cent of the readers’ votes, being followed by tennis
player Martina Navratilova, 23 per cent and Steffi Graf, 18
per cent, router Jannie Longo, 11 per cent and skier Anne-Marie
Proell, 7 per cent.
Also in this respect, the Romanian Sport
and Olympic Committee and Niro Group have organised “Nadia
Comaneci – the Sportswoman of the 20th Century” Gala.
Nadia
Comaneci stated
she remembers almost each day she spent in the training hall,
especially after she was nine, until her withdrawal from competition
activity.
Concerning the decision of the Spanish paper,
Nadia
Comaneci said:
“I was quite surprised, because there were many sportswomen
and legends in the past 100 years who had exceptional results.
I didn’t expect to take the first place.”
Regarding the ROC Gala, the (volunteers)
team from www.romanian-gymnastics.com, which worked very hard
past two years and half to help some former gymnasts, is surprised
to hear that, besides organizing such events (for the TV &
media-hungry Old "Clever" Guys), the ROC , through
its Foundation, didn't "have had time" past month
or so, to pay back Andreea
Chelaru's mother expenses (a lousy $200) for her first
University taxes; she has send the documents almost a month
ago and has (like always) to wait at the *mercy* of ROC Foundation
to "have time for their Committee approval" before
getting these expenses reimbursed.
In the meantime, none of Romanian gymnastics Clubs
have has insurance -according to the mandatory RGF Status
and nobody seems to care. They seems to move only when a trial
is close.
