[09.09] No
more young coaches at RNCS
Three weeks before the admission exam at Romanian National
Coach School, only one candidate have applied for one of the
six places available.
The exams starts at the end of this month, so there is still
(hope and) a possibility to apply. At athletics, there are
six places and 70 candidates , same for soccer. For former
gymnasts, this school is a good opportunity to continue their
careers as a gymnastic coach. The exam is not so difficult
for a good athlete, the schedule is flexible (only few weeks
courses each semester), and in two years the qualification
will let the candidate to apply for any opening position as
a coach. And there are plenty of opening position around the
country, since many former coaches has left for West, getting
better paid jobs.
No hard choices, when making an option being a coach with
a salary between $150 (in Romania) to $2000-$4000 (in Western
Europe or U.S.A.).
"A lot of gymnastics clubs have asked former retired coaches
to come back for training. Many clubs looks now like retirement
houses or 'holyday with grandma' places. Many, too many young
or middle age coaches have left the country, due to miserable
salaries they were given at clubs. That 15% payment for the
coaches which have had discovered the Olympic champions is
good, a first step, but can not replace a decent salary, which
we need most"-said this morning a coach, interviewed in Bucharest
by romanian-gymnastics.com (for obvious reasons, he asked
us to keep his name out of story).
