Gymnastics Hall of Fame, to be build in Deva
Deva city, which hosted the Romanian gymnastics Olympic team
for more than 25 years, will host a Romanian gymnastics Hall
of Fame.
It will be build along the road to the nearby Deva fortress,
a major tourist attraction. 25 Bronze sculptures of Romanian
gymnastics champions and their coaches (like Marta and Bela
Karolyi, Octavian Belu, Mariana Bitang, Nadia Comaneci and
Catalina Ponor) will be placed here, in a $34 000 project.
All the gymnasts statues will be placed on marble supports.
The mayor of Deva also announced that a square will be build
nearby the Deva gymnastics school, where cultural and sports
events will be hosted."We haven't decided yet the
name: The Sports Square, The Champions Square or Olympics
Square"- Mircia Muntean, Deva Mayor.
This Hall of Fame project is being announced shortly after
Belu has complained, during the "Geniali" show at
Antena 1, that Romanian gymnastics still does not have such
a place to honor their top gymnasts.
